Petworth is noted for its brick row houses that were constructed during the 1920s and 30s by the DJ Dunigan Company and Cafritz builders. The area is located in the northwest quadrant of Washington DC. The boundaries are generally accepted as N. Capitol Street to the east, Rock Creek Church Road to the south, Georgia Avenue to the west and Kennedy Street Northwest to the north.
Petworth is well served by Washington’s Metro. Both the green line and yellow line serve the area. As of 2021, the population of Petworth was just under 70,000 people. Most live in single-family dwellings and townhomes.
The areas well served by Washington DC schools and there are variety of activities for children both during school and afterward in the community. A variety of community organizations provide programs and opportunities for children of all ages.
A largely middle-class community, Petworth plays host to a large and diverse population with a large number of people coming from Jamaica and the West Indies. This lends to interesting ethnic dining and strengthens Petworth’s reputation as diverse neighborhood.
